The Vietnam War As Seen From Thailand

“It was 1963 and I got sent to Korat, Thailand. It was a military base out in the boonies. I don’t think anyone knew what was going on there. Typical military, spend hundreds of thousands of dollars and nothing was happening. I got some ganja from my houseboy. These Thai locals would come do your laundry and clean your barracks for a couple dollars. I exchanged a carton of American cigarettes that cost me two dollars – he would double his money when he sold them in town – and he brought me Thai Sticks stuffed into a can of Saltine crackers.”
